Arenal Volcano National Park is located in Alajuela province; It first erupted in 1968. This protected area is a living laboratory due to its geological and geo-morphological riches, as well as its complex biological process development, which has evolved from virgin vegetation to a primary forest.

Arenal was Costa Rica's most active volcano until 2010, and one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world. It has been studied by seismologists for many years. Although the activity nowadays is less damaging, you can still see ash columns, underground rumbling, glowing orange lava flows and sudden explosions on a daily basis. With its perfect conical shape it allows breathtaking views of volcanic action in the summit. Almost every night the crater offers a spectacle of lights with its explosive eruptions

The area offers a lot of attractions like hot springs, La Fortuna Waterfalls, viewpoints, Venado Caves, Arenal lake and activities like canopy tour, canoe, hanging bridges, hiking trails, boat tours, kayak, and many others.
